Oh, Pippi.

I love Pippi. I grew up watching the movies (both Swedish and American versions) and reading the books. I even dressed up as her for Halloween one year (4th grade maybe?).

She's so spirited and quirky. And I just love her spunk.

I want to make something Pippi-esque for my niece for Christmas. I'm thinking I might attempt this fantastic doll that Larissa made over at Mmmcrafts. I love the wry smile she gave Pippi, it's absolutely perfect.

In my quest for finding Pippi inspiration I stumbled across these Etsy finds:

And this Pippi kid's skirt/apron is pretty cute, I really like the fabric.
I wish I had some to make a little tote bag with.

I think I'll stick to the doll for now and see how that goes first.

If you haven't read the books yet, I highly recommend them. It's a classic Swedish children's book loved by all (or, at least, by most). Pippi was actually featured at the World Expo in Shanghai this year at the Sweden pavilion. The first two photos were taken at the Expo this year, a great experience!

"Now you'd better go home," said Pippi, "so that you can come back tomorrow. Because if you don't go home, then you won't be able to come back tomorrow."

  1. I never read pipi books when I was little. But my friend dressed as her for Christmas once and she had wire in her hair to make it stick out. This obviously left an impression on me because this is the first thing I think of when someone mentions pipi.

  2. What a lot of great Pippi ideas! I've always loved her, too, and have a little Herr Nielson monkey that used to ride around on my shoulder! I once told my third grade teacher that Astrid Lindgren was my great-grandmother, and got into a lot of trouble for that...!

  3. Maren - the wire in the hair idea sounds brilliant. I used a wig when I was her for Halloween, why did your friend dress up for Christmas? I'm not judging, just curious. :)

Astrid - Bahaha!!! That's awesome. I mean, don't we all kinda wish we were related to Astrid Lindgren somehow? Your third grade self just admitted it. :)

  5. Hi there!

Stumbled on your blog looking for ideas for my own Pippi doll inspiration. Mine's for my son who is turning 5 in less than two weeks. It's sewn, also a take on Larissa's doll. But she's still faceless. I love the Lauren Child illustration, but want to do something a little different and am a little bit stuck! Anyway, if you want to see a picture of her, she's on my blog. Good luck with your pippi project!
