Midsommar crowns

Here is a quick peek of what I've been working on lately...

These Midsommar crowns are made from silk flowers and floral wire. From some readers' suggestions, I'm making some to sell at the Kingsburg Swedish Festival (in less than a month! ah!). I think my favorite ones so far are the blue and yellow ones (shown below on the right).

Pricing things is always a bit tricky for me. How much do you think I should sell the crowns for? At the Cal Luthern Swedish Festival last weekend, they had a "make your own" Midsommar crown booth with fresh flowers (carnations, greens, and baby's breath) for $3. The crowns I made cost about $3-$4 in supplies, not including time spent on putting them together. Suggestions?

In other news, I think I am finally going to bite the bullet and get a "real" camera! I'm saving up! So hopefully in the semi-near future my pictures on this blog will start looking a little better. :)

Happy Tuesday!

  1. Kathryn, they are absolutely beautiful!!! One of them looks like it has rosemary - is that silk too?
I am terrible at pricing things. Have you seen anything similar on Etsy to give you a range? Yeah for new cameras! I hope that sales go well.

    1. Thank you!! Yes, the rosemary one is silk too - I just bought a few strands of those and turns out I really like them a lot in the crowns!

  2. They are just lovely, Kathryn! I'm glad you liked the suggestion :-). Yes, the blue and yellow is especially beautiful. How about $8-10? Will there be a midsommar celebration in your area? You could mention these would be perfect for that special day!

    1. Thanks, Nancy! :) I was thinking about that too...I'd like to keep them at or under $10 if possible. At the Kingsburg craft fair/festival there will be a midsommar celebration so it will be the perfect time to sell them I think!

  3. Oh Kathryn! What a great idea! Silk flowers! The one thing about making a mid-sommar wreath that bothers me is that I am using fresh flowers. I KNOW - that is the point but i just feel like I am killing them!!!

I love this idea so much! And I wish you great success selling them. As for pricing, if the materials are costing the amount you suggested, you really can't sell them for less than $10.00. Will the public pay that? Very hard to tell until tried.

Perhaps you could assemble a few as kits as a less expensive (and less time consuming for you) option in addition to the made-up ones. Cover more bases that way!

    2. Thanks, Pam! Great suggestion about the kits!!! I think that is definitely a great way to go with them too...saves me some time and a lot of people like making their own. Good call! :)
